Section 1:

*Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr tied for the title of President of the United States in the election of 1800.

*They came up with a new way to vote where President and Vice President get elected seperatly in case of tie.

* Thomas Jefferson was named President of 1800.



Section 2:

*Southerners used the Missippi River to ship goods to the Northerners. Spain owned the Missippi River and Louisana and they often threatened to cut off all shipping involved with the Missippi river.

* USA came up with a treaty with Spain so that Spain couldn't cut the shipping. Spain secretly gave the land& river to France without United States knowing.

*United States bought Louisiana and the Missippi River for $15 million. Buying this land doubled the countries land.

Section 3:

*France and Britian go to war leading to United States trade restriction.

*Jefferson called an Embargo on foreign trade, and congress passed it.

Section 4:

*War of 1812 broke out. The main reason America wanted war with Britain was because of trade policies.

* In 1814 the British were able to send more troops to fight in the United States because they had finaly defeated Napoleon.

*The Treaty of Ghent ended the War of 1812.

*Aaron Burr shot Alexander Hamilton during a duel and Alexander Hamilton DIED.
